Yin Yoga comes to us from the teachings of Taoism of ancient China and has become increasingly popular with yogis in the West. Yin teaches us to slow down, to move inward, to honor the body of the day and to rest in stillness. Yin works the deeper tissues of the body with its longer held postures which pool the life force from the surface of the body to irrigate stagnant energy and holding patterns from the inner body.
Restorative Yoga comes to us from the teachings of BKS Iyengar and offers even longer held postures where one is completely supported through the use of props. Restorative Yoga enables one to relax more fully, to release stress, to counter fatigue, and to restore equilibrium.
Yoga Nidra, or the sleep of the yogi, is a tantric form of meditation that is practiced from a supine position which supports relaxation even more deeply so that the things that aren’t really us can melt away and who we really are can rise up more and more.
